RCS stands for Rich Communication Services, a modern messaging technology that takes regular text messaging (SMS) to the next level. With RCS, you’re not just limited to sending plain text. Instead, you can send messages that include pictures, videos, and interactive buttons that let people respond or act right from the message. Think of RCS to make your messages more like mini web pages, offering a richer and more engaging experience for the person receiving them.
RCS works through your phone’s regular messaging app, just like SMS. But instead of sending only plain text, RCS allows you to include much more in your messages. For example, you can send a message that has a video, a carousel of images, or buttons that let the recipient quickly respond, buy something, or get more information. The magic happens because RCS uses internet connectivity (like data or Wi-Fi) to send these richer messages, as long as both the sender and receiver have phones and networks that support RCS.
While SMS is the basic form of messaging that we’ve used for years—limited to text and the occasional image—RCS is designed to make messaging much more interactive and visually appealing. With SMS, you can send 160 characters of text and maybe an image.
